Scarred Up

It isn’t a coincidence that scared
Has one less letter than scarred.

Scarred is the past tense of scared.

The extra R is regret.

But oh, how shiny that R is when relief glows from under.
Pushing up the skin. Puckering at my prodding finger.
Because I’m still alive.

And oh, that is sacred. To survive.

it only takes a second

from all the way back in 2013. a great reminder:

i just realized that all the pain and hurt that i have felt over the years is not in charge of who i am or what i will be. God is in charge and i will choose to live by his command of forgiveness and peace and live without fear, revenge or regret. to give my abuse a second life by holding on to the past is robbing me of my present and future. that abuse can no longer have any more of my life or health! to live in anger only causes personal suffering. i was driving down the road the other day and i crested the hill. there was a child in the street and my first reaction was to be angry. judge him for his actions, his parents lack of supervision or any reason to be upset with him. a child. and then, within seconds, i chose to put that down and wave and smile and be friendly to the kid. i shocked my husband and even myself. it only takes a second to choose kindness. it only takes a second to choose a better path.

Choosing a good path today! Good luck to you, too!

I didn’t love you
With all that I had.
I saved some for me.
Am I bad? Are you sad?

Sharp in the vein.
Blood in the glass.
Drink all the pain.
Don’t give hurt a pass.

This aroma.
This smell.
This pain.
This well.

I sweat these smells and swirling thoughts
Linger on the rush of Past.
I get high on who we were.
Too bad stinging smoke won’t last.

twilight

this was siesta key beach (sarasota, florida) when Lilli was only 4 or 5. i took this photo with a throw away camera. sometimes, those are the best shots.

she had just made a new friend on the beach, but the day was winding down. it’s always a thrill to meet someone new, but tragic knowing you only have a few minutes with them. you wish you’d known them the whole day. or your whole life.

as a kid, i remember the feeling of meeting someone so amazing and the panic of realizing, “I’ll never see this person again.” :/

6 haikus for temporary friendship

ran around today
endless chasing after play
at the end, it’s found

just made a new friend
but the sun is going down
twilight never end

the sun is tired
but my will and joy are up
time to rise and shine

the water sparkles
with new feelings of friendship
and tears fall from fear

don’t go, Sun. please, stay.
if you go, my friend will, too.
and I’m not ready.

nice to meet you, friend
let’s vow to always meet here
at least in our hearts
